CANTERBURY SOCCER REFEREES ASSOCIATION

P.O. BOX 22-702 CHRISTCHURCH

April 2003

The main purpose of this Easter newsletter is to thank everyone for your patience during what has been an extraordinary beginning to the 2003 season. As the list overleaf reveals, there has been a very large flow of new referees finishing their introductory training and getting ready to officiate on the park. Consequently there have been some delays in supplying uniforms, badge numbers are still being engraved, and some of you were initially overlooked in appointments. Despite this, I assure all members of the Association - new and old - that you are very welcome!!! Hopefully the problems are getting ironed out, and we can concentrate on developing as referees and enjoying the experience. Speaking for myself, it has been marvellous to see the revitalised enthusiasm that new referees bring to the game, and I wish you all the best for the season.

Meeting Dates

A reminder that the CSRA meets twice a month, on the second and fourth Mondays, beginning at 7.30pm in the main lounge of the new English Park building. The fourth Monday is devoted to referee coaching, organised by Ian Walker. The meeting on the second Monday includes some coaching and any general business that needs to be considered by members.

Uniforms and Equipment

The CSRAs Equipment Officer is Robbie Noster. Anyone wanting to order items of referee uniform or equipment can do so through Robbie. His telephone number is 3228665, or 021775584. His e-mail address is noster@xtra.co.nz. Robbie will need to know exactly what you want and details such as size and colour. Please note that there can be a delay while the uniform is sent from Auckland. We provide all new referees with a full uniform (socks, shorts and shirt), a whistle, a notebook, and a set of two assistant referee flags. New referees who have still not received this package after passing your introductory referee course should also contact Robbie.

Appointments

The CSRAs Appointment Officer is Andy Brown. Andy notifies appointments by sending an Excel spreadsheet to all members who are on the internet. Wayne Stapley also posts the appointments on the CSRA website which can be found at this address:

http://cantysoccerrefs.tripod.com/

If you are unavailable for a Saturday, or if something occurs that means you cannot officiate at a game, please let Andy know as soon as possible. His e-mail address is:

Fitness Training

Wayne Stapley and Stephen Roach supervise fitness training on Tuesday evenings from 6.00 to 7.00 at the Christchurch Polytechnic gymnasium. Entry is from Coventry Street (off Barbadoes Street) or Williams Street (off Ferry Road). The training generally consists of a mixture of stretches, running, exercises and a short game of indoor soccer. Everyone can go at their own pace, and all are welcome. Because of Easter and ANZAC weekend, the fitness test for Fed 6 referees has been postponed until Sunday 4 May (starting 10.00 at QEII track).

Membership List

I have included my most recent list of registered members of the CSRA. I apologise in advance for errors and omissions - please send any corrections to me at the following email address: paul.dalziel@clear.net.nz.

Saturday Afternoon Drinks

Each Saturday, we are invited to meet at Bailies Bar (Warners Hotel) in Cathedral Square after the game for a drink and conversation. This is a good way to learn about refereeing, as we talk about some of the good and not-so-good things we did that afternoon!

New Badge Numbers

Here is a list of the referees being presented with their CSRA badges this month. There may be more as registrations still trickle in, but 31 is a very impressive number of mostly new referees.
